Chennai Bags IPL Final Hosting Rights, Ahmedabad To Host Crucial Playoff Matches: Reports

The BCCI is poised to unveil the schedule for the remainder of IPL 2024 , which kicked off earlier this week with defending champions Chennai Super Kings clinching victory over Royal Challengers Bangalore in the season opener at home. According to reports, Chennai’s Chepauk will also play host to the IPL 2024 final.

“The IPL Governing Council has followed the tradition of holding the opening game and final at the home venue of last year’s defending champions — in this case Chennai Super Kings," stated a senior BCCI official, as quoted by PTI.

The tradition of holding the opening game and final at the home venue of the defending champions from the previous year, in this case, Chennai Super Kings, has been maintained by the IPL Governing Council, as per the official.

The report also indicated that the BCCI has finalized the schedule, taking into account the dates of the general elections, which will be announced shortly.

CricketNext previously reported that the IPL Governing Council is revising its initial draft of the second phase of the ongoing season to avoid any potential clashes with polling dates.

“The Election Commission of India announced the schedule of General Elections so we now know the exact dates. The work is underway on the remainder fixtures and we are reworking some fixtures from the first draft to avoid clashes with polling dates,” said IPL GC chairman Arun Dhumal.

Dhumal also reiterated that the board never considered relocating the IPL out of the country and affirmed that it will be held entirely in India.

The fixtures for the first two weeks of IPL 2024 were released by the BCCI last month, with a draft prepared for the rest of the season. With the confirmation of polling dates, adjustments were made to the draft, and the schedule is set to be made public.

CSK commenced their title defense with an impressive six-wicket win over RCB, while last year’s runners-up, Gujarat Titans, will kick off their campaign on Sunday as they host five-time champions Mumbai Indians.
