CSK vs SRH: MS Dhoni Makes IPL History, Becomes First Player To Be Part Of 150 Victories

MS Dhoni etched his name in the annals of IPL history on Sunday, April 28, as he achieved a remarkable milestone, becoming the first player ever to reach 150 victories in the T20 tournament. Dhoni's feat came as the Chennai Super Kings ( CSK ) secured a commanding 78-run victory over the SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.


Having been an integral part of the IPL since its inception in 2008, Dhoni has played a total of 259 matches in the league. The 42-year-old veteran, who boasts an illustrious career, shares the title of the most successful captain in IPL history, having led his team to victory on five occasions. Ahead of the ongoing season, Dhoni entrusted the leadership of the Super Kings to Ruturaj Gaikwad .

Walking in to bat in the final over after Ruturaj Gaikwad's dismissal for 98, Dhoni made an impact with a boundary off the first delivery he faced, ending unbeaten on 5 off 2 balls as CSK posted a formidable total of 212.

Dhoni's influence wasn't limited to batting; he also showcased his skills behind the stumps, taking a catch during CSK's dominant performance against SRH. Daryl Mitchell's quickfire fifty, coupled with his five outfield catches, equalled an IPL record and contributed significantly to CSK's victory.

Known for his late-overs heroics, Dhoni has been sensational with the bat in his brief appearances. With 96 runs scored off just 37 balls at a staggering strike rate of 257, Dhoni's impactful innings have often turned the tide in favor of his team. One such memorable instance was his onslaught against Hardik Pandya at the Wankhede Stadium, where Dhoni hammered three consecutive sixes, finishing with a rapid 20 runs off just four balls, ultimately proving to be the difference between CSK and MI in a crucial encounter.

Following their emphatic 78-run win over SRH, CSK reclaimed their spot in the top four of the IPL standings, amassing 10 points from nine matches and currently occupying the third position.
