GT Captain Shubman Gill On His Dismissal By Livingstone: 'Tried to Rush Me, But Would've Made The Same Decision Regardless'

The Gujarat Titans have regained their winning momentum with a victory over Punjab Kings at the Mullanpur Stadium in Mohali , securing a three-wicket win and elevating their tally to eight points from as many games in the 2024 Indian Premier League season.

Captain Shubman Gill contributed a crucial 35 runs off 29 balls in challenging batting conditions, particularly against the spinners.

Reflecting on the match during the post-match presentation, Gill expressed a desire to expedite the conclusion to boost the team's net run rate , which currently stands at -1.055 for GT, while still emphasizing satisfaction with the victory. “Would have liked to finish it a bit early, but it’s good to get the two points,” remarked the GT skipper.

Gill assumed the captaincy following the high-profile transfer of former skipper Hardik Pandya to the Mumbai Indians, necessitating the elevation of the opening batter to leadership duties. "It’s been very exciting for me to be able to take up this role. Except for the over-rate, everything has been good” he remarked.

Regarding his approach to batting while shouldering the responsibility of captaincy, Gill emphasized simplicity, aiming to maintain his usual style without overburdening himself. He referenced his successful bid for the orange cap in 2023, stating, " When I am out there batting, I just want to play as a batter, I don’t want to think too much about the captaincy”.

In response to inquiries about the on-field exchange with PBKS spinner Liam Livingstone , Gill acknowledged a competitive edge but downplayed its influence on his decision-making. Despite the tense atmosphere, Livingstone succeeded in his aim, claiming Gill's wicket with a catch by Kagiso Rabada.

Reflecting on the incident, Gill asserted, "He was trying to rush me there but the ball that I got out, I would have made that decision regardless even without that little bit that we had."

His statement indicated that on-field tensions did not sway his choice of shot, underscoring his focus on performance rather than external distractions.
