Virat Kohli was born on November 5, 1988, in Delhi, India. He was raised in New Delhi and started his youth career with the Delhi Under-15 team. He trained at the West Delhi Cricket Academy under his coach Rajkumar Sharma.

Kohli made his debut in the Under-19 team during India's tour of England in 2006. He captained the Indian U-19 cricket team to victory in the 2008 ICC U-19 Cricket World Cup held in Malaysia.
