Watch: Rohit Sharma Takes Over Field Settings, Sends Hardik Pandya To Boundary Line

It was an evening of dismay for Hardik Pandya in his role as captain of the Mumbai Indians on Thursday, witnessing his team concede a whopping 277/3 in 20 overs - the highest ever total conceded by a team in IPL history.

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) secured a 31-run victory over the Mumbai Indians (MI) in a high-scoring encounter during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 clash at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Wednesday.

Following Sunrisers Hyderabad's mammoth total, Rohit Sharma (26 runs from 12 balls) and Ishan Kishan (34 runs from 13 balls) kicked off for the visitors, providing the Mumbai-based franchise with a blazing start. Nevertheless, two rapid dismissals paved the way for Hyderabad to stage a comeback in the game.

Tilak Varma (64 runs from 34 balls) emerged as the lone shining light among Mumbai's batsmen. He smashed two fours and six sixes at a striking rate of 188.24 during his stint at the crease.

Tim David (42 runs from 22 balls) attempted to form a partnership with Tilak but fell short in chasing the formidable target.

Jaydev Unadkat and Pat Cummins spearheaded the Hyderabad bowling attack, claiming two wickets each in their respective spells. Shahbaz Ahmed clinched one wicket in his three-over spell, aiding the hosts in securing a 31-run triumph in the encounter.

A video clip has gone viral depicting Hardik Pandya rushing towards the boundary line with Rohit Sharma seen communicating something to him. The commentators can be heard remarking, "Rohit's involvement is being seen. Hardik Pandya is going to the boundary line to field."

The video gained widespread attention, particularly following an incident in MI's first match where Pandya could be seen instructing Rohit to patrol the boundary line.

In the earlier innings, MI skipper Hardik Pandya won the toss and elected to field first against the hosts, SRH, at Hyderabad's Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.

Opening batsmen Mayank Aggarwal and Travis Head took the crease. Both batsmen launched into attacking shots right from the outset. They forged a 45-run partnership in just four overs before Mayank fell victim to Hardik's delivery on the first ball of the innings, managing to score 11 runs.

SRH reached their fifty in the 4.4 overs with Head striking a boundary off Pandya's bowling. Following Mayank's dismissal, Abhishek Sharma joined Head at the crease. The duo constructed a blistering 68-run partnership from just 23 balls. Head departed after a stellar knock of 62 runs off 24 balls, embellished with nine fours and three sixes.

The hosts breached the 100-run mark on the last ball of the seventh over as Abhishek dispatched a six off leg-spinner Piyush Chawla.

Following Head's departure, former SRH skipper Aiden Markram arrived to support Abhishek. The pair showcased remarkable resilience, adding 48 runs in a mere 19 balls before Abhishek was dismissed after a spectacular innings of 63 runs off just 23 balls, comprising seven maximums and three boundaries.

Hyderabad reached the 150-run milestone on the second ball of the 11th over as the left-handed batter secured a single off Chawla's delivery. Subsequent to Abhishek's dismissal, Klassen took to the crease alongside Markram.

The duo forged an unbroken partnership of 116 runs from a mere 55 balls. Klassen remained undefeated on 80 from 34 deliveries, including seven maximums and four boundaries.

The SRH team achieved the 200-run mark on the fourth ball of the 15th over as Klassen smashed a maximum off right-arm seamer Jasprit Bumrah, reaching the 250-run mark in the 19th over.

For MI, Pandya, Gerald Coetzee, and Chawla claimed one wicket each in their spells, conceding 46, 57, and 34 runs respectively.
