Google Podcasts To Shut Down: Here’s What You Need To Know

Google has made the decision to discontinue its Podcasts app , adding it to the list of services that the tech giant has unexpectedly shuttered over the years. The move, confirmed by the company, indicates a strategic shift in its offerings, prompting users to explore alternatives such as YouTube Music for their podcast listening needs.

Last year, in a blog post, Google outlined the transition plan for Podcasts users. The company informed users that they could opt to migrate their subscriptions to YouTube Music or download them as an OPML file , offering flexibility in choosing their preferred podcast platform. However, users must act swiftly as the migration tool will only be available until July 29.

Here’s a guide on how to make the switch from Google Podcasts to YouTube Music:

  • Open the Google Podcasts app on your device.
  • Tap on the ‘Export subscriptions’ button at the top of the screen.
  • Under the ‘Export to YouTube Music’ section, click the ‘Export’ button.
  • YouTube Music will launch, prompting you to confirm the transfer of your subscriptions to your signed-in account.
  • Select the ‘Transfer as xyz@gmail.com‘ option and proceed by tapping ‘Continue’.

  • According to Google, your podcast subscriptions will seamlessly integrate into your YouTube Music library as third-party podcasts. However, if YouTube Music doesn’t suit your preferences, you also have the option to download your subscriptions as an OPML file. This file can then be utilised to export your podcasts to a different app of your choosing, ensuring a smooth transition for avid podcast listeners.
