Want to know who’s messaging you without even unlocking your phone? WhatsApp allows you to assign unique notification tones to contacts and groups, making it easier to distinguish between messages. Whether you're organizing your work chats or adding a fun sound for your family group, customizing tones gives your WhatsApp experience a personal upgrade.

1. Access WhatsApp Notification Settings

To begin, open the WhatsApp app on your Android device. Tap the three-dot icon at the top-right corner and select ‘Settings’ from the menu. Then tap on ‘Notifications’—this is where all message, group, and call alert settings are managed.

2. Set Custom Tones for Individual Contacts

In the notifications menu, scroll down and choose “Custom Notifications.” Select the contact you want to customize. Check the box to enable custom notifications, and you’ll see options to change the message tone, vibration style, popup behavior, and more.

3. Customize Group Chat Alerts

If group messages are getting lost among your personal chats, head to the “Group Notifications” section under the same settings tab. From here, assign a distinct tone for group messages so you can easily tell them apart from direct chats.

4. Select the Right Notification Sound

When choosing a tone, pick a sound that matches the urgency or importance of the chat. For example, use a short ping for casual conversations and a louder or longer tone for work-related messages. You can also adjust vibration patterns or LED light colors (if supported).

5. Test Your Notification Settings

Once everything is set, test the tones by sending a message to yourself or asking a contact to text you. Make sure each customized alert sounds as expected. If anything feels off, return to the settings and fine-tune the tone or volume.
