NIA conducts searches at houses in Nagapattinam

NAGAPATTINAM: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) carried out raids at the houses of two persons on an alleged link with Wahdathe Islami Hind outfit in Nagapattinam district here on Saturday. The two persons are taken to the office of the Superintendent of Police (SP) in the district for interrogation.

As NIA suspects that the Wahdathe Islami Hind had an association with various Islamic outfits, the officials have initiated the searches at the houses of two who have been identified as Hassan Ali of Sikkal and Haris Mohammed of Manjakollai areas in Nagapattinam since 9am in the morning on Saturday.



During the searches which lasted till 3pm, it is said that the NIA authorities have recovered computers, laptops and pen drives from both their houses by the investigating officers in connection with Easter Day blasts in Sri Lanka recently.

Based on some strong evidence as the two had contact with some other banned Islamic organisations, the NIA has executed the searching operation, sources said. Later both of them were taken to SP office for further interrogations.

The NIA team is also probing if they were plotting to murder Hindu leaders and communicated via social media with regard to that. Investigations revealed that the terrorists involved in the Sri Lanka blasts have had connections with Kerala and Tamil Nadu .
