Nine Vistadome coaches for new Shimla train

CHANDIGARH: Convinced by the huge response of single coach launched by the Ambala division last year, Northern Railway has given a go ahead to the project of a new train in which there will be nine coaches which will have glass roof like a Vistadome coach.


The heritage section of Kalka Shimla will now have this Vistadome coach.

Dinesh Kumar, divisional railway manager Ambala division said that this is for the first time on this section there is huge demand of rakes on this section especially of vistadome. He said that Kalka workshop is designing the coaches and soon they will be on track for the passenger. He said that that the division received huge response of existing vistadome coach which was launched last year. Considering which the decision was taken to launch a train which will have all the rakes with glass roof.

Referring to feedback from the passengers from vistadome coach the division will make a provision of pantry and washroom in the new coaches which will be design for the train. In new coaches there will be facility for mobile charging and air condition. As per the records of the division there is 100 percent occupancy in the vistadome coach running on trial from Kalka to Shimla but there is less response from Shimla to Kalka. In fact, passengers also proposed to increase the mobile charger points in the coach. After the coach was launch every day the division is taking the feedback from five passengers.

Vistadome coach was launched on December 11, 2018. The single coach has 36 seats. The fare is Rs 130 for adults which includes Rs 115 as fare and Rs 15 for reservation charges while for child Rs 60 as fare and Rs 15 as reservation charges for the vistadome coach. The fare was fixed on trial basis for six months and after the response review will be done for the same.
