NIT Warangal holds its 17th convocation

HYDERABAD: NIT Warangal held its 17th convocation on campus on Saturday. A record 1,528 candidates received their degrees. Out of this, 76 were PhD degree awardees, 555 were M Tech graduates as well as other post-graduate degree awardees and 897 B Tech graduates.


Addressing students in the Diamond Jubilee Year of NIT Warangal, director N V Ramana Rao said 35 research projects worth Rs 20.87 crore had been sanctioned by Science and Engineering Research Board to various departments in the past year.

He said NIT Warangal had conducted 51 Global Initiative of Academic Networks (GIAN) courses, the highest among all the NITs in the country. He also mentioned that the institute secured 10 research projects worth Rs 5.5 crore with international collaboration under the Scheme for Promotion of Academic and Research Collaboration (SPARC).

T-Works, an initiative of the state government, has come forward to establish a full-fledged 'makers' space' at Innovation centre on a PPP (Public Private Partnership) model at an estimated cost of Rs 60 lakh, the director said.

Chief guest Nitin Kumar Tripathi, director of special degree programmes and professor of geoinformatics at Asian Institute of Technology Pathumthani, Thailand, delivered the convocation address. He advised graduates to become experts in their domains so as to meet challenges the industry throws up. He also asked them to serve people without any prejudice of religion or cultural biases. He further said adapting to new technologies such as blockchain, data science and artificial intelligence (AI) was the need of the hour.

The institute gold medal was handed to Y Sahiti of computer science and engineering department for having the highest CGPA among all branches of engineering. Gold medals were also handed to each of the toppers in the BTech course from eight departments.
