No Jashn-e-Eid for TV celebs in Jaipur

For people across Jaipur, it is going to be a low-key Eid al-Fitr owing to the pandemic and country currently under the fourth consecutive lockdown. There won't be any iftar parties, communal prayers and the traditional fare that one often witnesses during Eid. We speak to a few TV celebrities from Jaipur who are in town during Eid on how they are gearing up for the celebration during the lockdown and what they are missing the most, this year.

'Warm hugs will be replaced by virtual calls'

Somi and Saba Khan

Bigg Boss 12 contestants Saba and Somi Khan are in Jaipur for the past couple of months. Saba says, "Last year, we attended an iftar party in Mumbai along before flying down to Jaipur for Eid al-Fitr. This time, it is going to be a low-key celebration. Every year, we make sumptuous iftar meal and invite our friends and family home. We buy new clothes and go to the mosque for prayers." "This time, we have not purchased new clothes," Somi says. "Unlike every year, we won't be meeting our friends and the warm hugs will be replaced by virtual calls. We will be making seviyan and biryani at home. Usually, we exchange sweets with our friends and relatives, but this time, we won't be able to do that."

'My mom stitched suit for me'
Shireen Mirza of Yeh Hai Mohabbatein fame is happy that she came to Jaipur, much before the lockdown was announced. Otherwise, she would have missed out on celebrating Eid with her family, something that she has been doing for the last 10 years.

Shireen Mirza

"It's been more than 10 years that I have shifted my base to Mumbai. But I make sure that every year, I fly down to Jaipur to celebrate Eid with my family. Every year, I buy new clothes and apply mehendi. This time, I couldn't buy new clothes, so my mother stitched a suit for me. I can't wait to wear that on Eid!" she says. "I missed meeting my close friends and relatives during Ramzan. But on Eid al-Fitr, we will be greeting each other virtually," she adds.

'Glad I came to Jaipur before the lockdown was announced'

Arhaan Khan
