Noida residents complain about faulty streetlights

NOIDA: Residents across many sectors in Noida, including 28, 29, 33, 34, 35, 37, 40, 41, 52, 53 and more have complained about faulty LED street lights which are being replaced in phases across the city.

“There are about 15-16 LED lights which are non-functioning in our sector. While we complained to Noida Authority , they told us that repair and maintenance would be done by a private company which has been given the contract for its installation and maintenance,” said Dharmendra Sharma, a resident of Aravalli Apartment B-3, sector 34.

In E-3 Shatabdi Vihar sector 52 all 9 LED lights are not functioning, complained a resident R L Chogat of the sector.

While Sharma lauds authority’s steps of replacing old streetlights with the LED ones, KK Jain, RWA president sector 34 has written to CEO Alok Tandon intimating that most such lights installed by the private company, have stopped functioning after their installation. “While the company installed LED bulbs in the streetlights of sector 34, after a few days, some of the newly replaced streetlights are not working. We have lodged a number of complaints with officials of Noida authority but no action has been taken in this regard. It is not even clear whether Noida authority or the private company will take care of repairing the new lights,” said Jain.

When contacted R P Singh from the electrical and mechanical department circle 2, Noida Authority, who’s the nodal officer for these lights told TOI that a 7-year contract has been given to a private company to install LED lights across the city which is responsible for its functioning.

“The company is installing these LED lights and are responsible for their repair, damage and maintenance as per the contract. It is also doing the required maintenance on daily basis and will soon launch its mobile app, helpline numbers and command control centre from May 25 - 30 to address grievances from the public,” said Singh.
