Noida: Underground parking lot to open in June

NOIDA: The Noida Authority will deliver its promised three-floor underground parking in Sector 5 by June 30, aiming to solve the traffic mess in the industrial area. The parking, which has a capacity of 262 vehicles, is being built in an area of 11,370 sqm at a cost of Rs 32.15 crore.

Besides, two more underground parking lots in the industrial areas of sectors 1 and 3 are currently under construction and will be delivered in the first week of November and December 30, respectively.

“While civil work in the Sector 5 parking lot is 100% complete, the fire-fighting work is at 70% completion. All of this will be ready by June 10. However, the electrical and boundary wall works which will be completed only by June 30,” said Rajeev Tyagi, general manager of Noida Authority.

The Authority in 2015 had drawn a plan for parking spaces in sectors 1, 3, 5 and Film City in Sector 16 A to address the increasing traffic on roads in these areas. Out of these, sectors 1, 3 and 5 will get underground parking lots.

Apart from these, there will be multi-level parking lots next to Botanical Garden metro station in Sector 38A and near Sector 18. Together, these are expected to accommodate over 10,000 cars across industrial and commercial sectors in the city.

With over 10,000 industries situated in Noida, workers and employees have been parking their vehicles along the main road in the absence of designated parking lots, causing daily snarls and congestion. “It is to address this issue that we are expediting work on the parking lots. Once ready, the problem of parking on roads would be addressed to a large extent,” said Tyagi.
