Notice to party's Tarn Taran chief

CHANDIGARH: The district election officer of Tarn Taran on Friday issued a show-cause notice to Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) district president over allegations of his party distributing liquor at its rally in Khadoor Sahib.


The party is accused of distributing liquor at its rally in Dera Sahib village in Khadoor Sahib, Tarn Taran.

The party leader has been asked to submit a reply in 24 hours. Taking cognizance of a news report alleging that liquor was distributed after the rally, Punjab chief electoral officer S Karuna Raju had sought a report from district election officer.

In the report, DEO submitted that the rally was organised without mandatory permissions. Authorities have a video in their possession in which liquor is seen being distributed after the rally. Raju said appropriate action would be taken if the SAD did not give a satisfactory reply. A delegation of the Shiromani Akali Dal (Taksali), led by party chief and MP Ranjit Singh Brahmpura, sought action against SAD and its Lok Sabha candidate from Khadoor Sahib, Jagir Kaur, on Thursday for illegal distribution of liquor at the rally. The delegation said e SAD was indulging in illegal activities, to which the chief electoral officer assured the party leaders of taking suitable action against the guilty.
