Now, sequel for Shahid Kapoor's first college romance 'Ishq Vishq'

The follow-up to the 2003 original is currently in the scripting stage; makers to lock cast, director shortly

It seems to be the season of sequels. Mirror has learnt that after 'Student of the Year', 'Hindi Medium', 'Housefull', 'Sadak' and 'Chashme Baddoor', the 2003 romcom 'Ishq Vishk' is ready for part 2.

The film had marked the acting debut of Shahid Kapoor , who was paired with Amrita Rao , and won the Filmfare Award for Best Debut, at the 49th edition of the awards show. It was later remade into an Indonesian film, Cinta Gak Kemana.

Confirming the news, producer Ramesh Taurani told Mirror, “Yes, we are making a sequel to Ishq Vishk. The story is in scripting stage and could be about a teenage romance or a college romance. Hopefully, in the next two-three months we will lock the script and start looking for the director and cast.”

Ishq Vishk, which was directed by Ken Ghosh , and also featured Shenaz Treasury , revolved around Shahid’s Rajiv and Amrita’s Payal, who are childhood friends. While Payal is in love with Rajiv, it takes the latter a little longer to reciprocate. “When we got Ken on board, he had suggested two-three different concepts which would have required established stars and didn’t really impress me. Then, he came up with an idea to be headlined by newcomers, which we really liked and greenlit the project. We worked really hard on the film, the entire process from the first pitch to the wrap took us a year,” informs Taurani.

The filmmaker goes on to reveal that he had first met Shahid after he appeared in the Aryans’ music video 'Aankhon Mein Tera Hi Chehra' alongside Hrishitaa Bhatt in 1999. “He was very young then, so I asked him to wait for two-three years before I could launch him. When Ken narrated the final story of Ishq Vishk to me, I told him that I had a hero who fits the part and introduced him to Shahid.”

Meanwhile, the film’s team had seen Amrita in a coffee commercial and thought she was perfect for the role. “So, we tracked her and cast her,” reminisces Taurani, pointing out that Ishq Vishk was a realistic college film. “After watching it, Aziz (Mirza, filmmaker) uncle had said, ‘Yeh director college gaya hai lagta hai, sahi picture banai hai.’ That was a big compliment,” Taurani signs off.

While Shahid and Amrita hit pay dirt with the original film, the new cast is bound to generate buzz.
