One arrested for assault on Kashmiri trader

KOLKATA: The government railway police have arrested Mohd Nasimuddin alias Nana for allegedly assaulting and stabbing Kashmiri shawl trader 28 year old Shakuntala Ahmed Shah. The GRP has also detained one of his associates in this case on Sunday. The hunt for a third accused has begun in the adjoining areas of Park Circus and Tiljala.

The cops said that Nasimuddin was produced in court on Sunday after he owned up to the crime."It was at his instance that we rounded up the second accused," said an officer.

The police said they are now sure that the crime was a result of a sudden altercation. "Though some money might have been snatched, Shah's claims of a high amount is not matching the amount he pays to his money lender," claimed a source. Shah, a resident of Badgam in Kashmir was temporarily residing at Survey Park. It is still not clear why he and his two friends was creating a ruckus in Park Circus, claimed sources.

The railway Police claimed that the exact sequence of events as claimed by Shaw did not match evidence they have collected.

"We have arrested a person, detained one and established the identity of another who was involved. On Friday evening, Shah and his two friends from Kashmir had sat down near the rail tracks and we're conversing loudly and using curse words. Three youths from the adjoing area objected to the use of the nurse words. There was initially an argument and then they came to blows. While the two friends of Shah managed to escape, Shah got trapped and was stabbed," claimed an IPS officer who is part of the probe team. He added that they are investigating claims if indeed there was a robbery. "There are gaps even on that account," he said.

SRP (Sealdah) asheshbiswas said: "It was a crime that got committed uttered absolutely no hate angle involved. We are still investigating certain facts provided to us by Shah," said Biswas.
