One cop killed in road accident, three injured

JAIPUR: A Nagaur police’s sub-inspector was killed and three cops were injured after their escort vehicle collided with a trailer truck on Prabatsar-Hanumangarh highway on Sunday.

Sumer Singh (50), a native of Ajmer district was posted at Nagaur’s Parbatsar police station. According to Nagaur SP Gagandeel Singla, Singh was escorting a hard-core criminal to Ajmer high security jail when their SUV collided with a truck.



Sumer Singh was rushed to the hospital where he was declared brought dead. Speaking to TOI, Makrana Circle Officer (CO) Suresh Kumar, said that the criminal was travelling in a different vehicle. “The criminal was being taken from Churu to Ajmer. Sub-inspector Singh was entrusted to escort the vehicle till the Parbatsar border. It was a multi-axle truck which collided with his SUV. He sustained fatal injuries and could not be saved,” he said.

Three members of a Quick Reaction Team (QRT) which was travelling in the same SUV have sustained injuries and are currently undergoing treatment at a hospital. The officials informed TOI that highway on which the accident took place was not very far from the police station. “The hard core criminals are escorted in complete security by the police. Sumer Singh was given the task as the vehicle was to pass through the Parbatsar police station area. Three commandos also accompanied him,” an official said.

Singh’s relatives were informed about the incident even as senior officials began to arrive at the spot. “The collision was so horrifying that the police vehicle turned into a mangled heap. All cops had to be taken out of the damaged SUV carefully before they were rushed to the police station,” said another official. A case was filed against the accused driver.
