GUMLA: After recovery of a body belonging to an unidentified extremist , security forces have launched a search operation for Maoists and their factions in Barkani forest under Katri panchayat, about 21 km from here.

Police said they are not able to identify the body yet but said he belonged to the Jharkhand Jan Mukti Parishad (JJMP), an extremist outfit, and was killed by Maoists during a gang war in the Barkani forest.

The two groups fought for three hours late on Sunday after after about 50 Maoist rebels led by their sub-zonal commander Budheshwar Oraon and 20 JJMP ultras under their leader Sukar Oraon came face to face in the forest.

On getting information about the incident, a joint team of police and CRPF personnel rushed to the spot, but both squads had fled by then.
