One nomination filed on 2nd day, 40 forms issued

AGRA: Only one candidate filed papers on second day of the nomination process. Besides, 40 poll aspirants and their representatives from Agra and Fatehpur Sikri seats collected the nomination forms on Friday.


Vijay Singh Baghel filed nomination as candidate from Fatehpur Sikri seat on a Rashtriya Shoshit Samaj Party ticket.



Representatives of BJP’s Agra Lok Sabha seat candidate SP Singh Baghel and Fatehpur Sikri candidate Rajkumar Chahar also took the nomination form. A nomination form was also issued in the name of Congress state president Raj Babbar for Fatehpur Sikri seat.

According to poll officials, on the second day of the nomination process, 18 forms were issued for Agra constituency and 22 for Fatehpur Sikri. So far, a total of 79 forms have been issued for two seats of Agra district. Now, candidates have two days (around eight hours) left to file the papers for second phase of Lok Sabha elections on April 18.

On Friday, the nomination process started at 11 am and concluded at 3 pm. Leaders of BJP, BSP, Congress, Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party, Rashtriya Lok Samta Party, Rashtriya Shoshit Samaj Party, Apki Apni Party, National Youth Party, Rashtriya Samaj Party and others reached the collectorate for nomination forms.

However, a majority of those who received the forms did not belong to any political party and intend to contest as independents.

With Saturday and Sunday being a holiday, the last two days to file nomination will be Monday and Tuesday. Candidates of few political parties have planned political rallies to file nomination at the district collectorate.

Apart from BJP, the BSP in coalition with SP and RLD has fielded Manoj Kumar Soni from Agra whereas Rajveer Singh will contest election from Fatehpur Sikri. Congress party has so far not made any formal declaration about its candidates.

After the end of the nomination process on March 26, returning officers will check the nomination forms submitted by candidates on March 27 and 28. On March 29, candidates will have a chance to withdraw their names. After that, a final list of candidates will be announced.
