Online slur cast at women MLA, man held in Guntur

Vijayawada: A 42-year-old man was arrested in Guntur on Tuesday for posting objectionable content against women MLAs on social media.

The man was identified as Punugupati Ramesh, a native of Chandrasekharapuram in Prakasam district. The cops nabbed him while he was going to a lawyer.

Assembly secretary P Balakrishnamacharyulu had lodged a complaint on July 24 with Tulluru police against Ramesh’s Facebook account on which he had posted a photo of six YSRC women MLA with an ‘indecent’ comment.

Of the six MLAs, two belong to scheduled tribes (ST) and one is from scheduled castes (SC).

Cops had booked a case under relevant sections of the IT Act.

Guntur rural SP R Jayalakshmi had formed two special teams and the cybercrime wing of CID was also taken on board to crack the case. Ramesh’s movement was tracked by using his Internet Protocol (IP) address through Chandrasekahrapuram, Nellore city, Coimbatore, Selam, Chennai and Bangalore.
