Over 10k litres of illicit liquor, 60 kg of contraband seized

DEHRADUN: The enforcement agencies have seized 10,296 litres of illicit liquor with an estimated value of Rs 43.9 lakh and contraband worth Rs 26.7 lakh in Uttarakhand since the model code of conduct came into effect on March 10.


While the excise department recovered over 15,000 litres of alcohol, including 628 litres of English liquor and 773 litres of country-made alcohol, police have seized 8,790 litres of illicit liquor in last seven days.



“The police department is ensuring that model code of conduct is enforced across Uttarakhand. All the steps are being taken to ensure free and fair polls in the state,” said Ashok Kumar , director general (law and order).

Police across the Himalayan state have recovered 60 kg of contraband, which includes 6 kg of charas and 54 kg of cannabis . “The total value of the seized contraband is Rs 26.7 lakh,” said a senior police officer.

The teams of election commission have also seized Rs 26.9 lakh in cash since the polls were announced. The cash was recovered from Champawat and Udham Singh Nagar districts which share a border with Nepal.
