Over half of State's cases in 4 districts

1,056 cases in Gujarat on Monday; 236 in Surat, 144 in A’bad, 108 in Vadodara, 96 in Rajkot; together, they account for 55% of day’s tally

Gujarat on Monday reported 1,056 new cases of Covid-19, taking the tally so far to 72,120 so far. With 20 more succumbing to the infection, its death toll has reached 2,674.

The highest number of cases, 236, were reported from Surat, followed by 144 in Ahmedabad, 108 in Vadodara and 96 in Rajkot. These four districts accounted for 584 cases or 55% of the total cases of the state. Gujarat has been reporting more than 1,000 cases daily for 21 days now.

Porbandar and Morbi reported 25 cases, Amreli 42 and Kutch saw 32 cases, their highest so far. Besides these districts, Bhavnagar reported 48 cases, Jamnagar 31, Gandhinagar 26 and Junagadh 18. Gir-Somnath reported 29 cases, while there were 20 cases each at Bharuch and Surendranagar.

Mehsana reported 19 cases, Panchmahals and Valsad 18 each, Kheda 15, Dahod 14, Patan 13 and Narmada 11. Other districts reported cases in single digits.

Of the 20 deaths, 8 were in Surat, 4 in Ahmedabad, 2 in Vadodara and 1 each in Amreli, Bhavnagar, Mehsana, Porbandar, Rajkot and Tapi.

Of the 14,170 active patients in various hospitals across the state, the state health department reprinted 76 to be on ventilator support while 14,094 were in stable medical condition. With the discharge of 1,138 Covid-19 patients from various hospitals in Gujarat, the state government informed that 55,5276 patients have been discharged so far.

Overall tally in A’bad crosses 28k-mark

With 144 new cases in Ahmedabad, the district’s overall tally reached 28,042 on Monday, the Gujarat health department said. Of these, 133 were from within city limits, while 11 were from other parts of the district. With 113 patients discharged from hospitals during the day, the number of recoveries in the district stands at 22,612, an official release said.

17 new micro-containment areas in city

The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation on Monday identified 17 more micro-containment areas in the city. Of these 7 were in western Ahmedabad and 10 in eastern Ahmedabad. With this, the city now has 253 areas in micro-containment.
