Palakkad: Palakkad Government Medical College authorities is hopeful of getting permanent recognition as they have submitted a detailed report to the Medical Council of India (MCI) about the additional infrastructure and facilities set up the at the institute. MCI had directed the authorities to improve the facilities during its inspection last month.

The Medical College authorities said that MCI team will visit the institute this week for the final inspection. At present, recognition is given temporarily every year. They said that the detailed report was submitted to the MCI during its hearing in New Delhi on Friday.

“One of the main lapses found during the last MCI inspection was that required number of faculty were not appointed in the Medical College. This problem is now solved with the appointment of faculty as per MCI norms,” the authorities said.

“The infrastructure facilities are also getting completed. Construction of the medical college building is in the last stage. Work of the academic block will be completed in a month. Ninety percentage of works of the hospital block is completed,” they said.

“The clinical wing of the Medical College is functioning in the district hospital where facilities have been improved,” they said.

The two-member expert team of the MCI examined the basic infrastructure facilities at the Medical College, which is functioning from the District Hospital and the Women and Child Hospital as the medical college complex at Yakkara is under construction.

The Medical College had started functioning under the Schedule Caste and Scheduled Tribes department using its fund. The first MBBS batch passed out this year and the college recorded 90% pass.
