Pali Hill locals upset as BMC supplies water at midnight

MUMBAI: Residents of several highrises and bungalows in Bandra 's Pali Hill are seeing red over BMC 's move to change water supply timings for their area. The BMC, which used to supply water early morning, changed it to midnight.

Pali Hill Residents' Association members said BMC had informed them in the last week of July that it would change the supply hours temporarily to test pressure in surrounding areas.

Brian Alex, a resident, said they were losing sleep due to the change. "We have a water tank, but someone needs to keep a watch, to shut it once it's filled, taking a toll on our health," he said. Association secretary Madhu Poplai said BMC had assured them that after seven days, the supply timing would be restored. "But it is not happening today, and we have been informed that the new timing will continue till further notice." Lyricist Gulzar too sent a complaint letter to the association. Gulzar told TOI the timing was "very inhuman" as someone has to wake up to open the tank tap and then shut it.

BMC hydraulic engineer Ashok Tawadia said though there was a change in timing, water supply hours had been increased. "Everyone in the area has overhead and underground tanks. Therefore, we hope it will not be a problem. The advantage of the new timing is that many areas, like the slums in Gazdarbandh and Khar Danda , has been getting good supply".
