Paniohala hill, Dhenkanal town: Wall of protection

Dhenkanal: Surrounded by four hills Dhenknal town is on each of its sides Megha to the East, Korian to West, Ranja to North and Paniohala to the South. Despite major cyclones hit the state have brought to bear, none of them could do  damage in Dhenkanal town because ofits protective cover in ‘Paniohala’ hill.Out of these four, from College Square to Deula Sahi Paniohala which stretches 5km is always special to the locals.Even 1999 Super Cyclone, Phailin, Hudhud, Titli or the recent Fani, they barely had impact on this town.

According to them, before the Super Cyclone the administration had warned them of the gales causing devastation in the town. “The internecine wind speed was not felt here in the town which is why power supply was restored within three days and life returned to normal,” a resident said. Fani  also failed to leave trail of destruction in this town.
