Parbhani first in Maharashtra to touch 40°C this summer, Brahmapuri follows

PUNE : The summer is barely upon us and Parbhani has already become the first location in Maharashtra to touch the 40°C-mark on Monday. On Tuesday, Brahmapuri in Vidarbha recorded 40.2°C and was the hottest location in the country on the day along with Anantapur in Rayalseema.

Though the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has not issued any heat wave forecast yet, five other stations in the state on Monday and four on Tuesday saw day temperatures touching 39°C or higher.

On Monday, Gulbarga (north interior Karnataka) recorded India’s highest maximum temperature at 40.9°C with Parbhani second at 40.1°C.

The only location in Madhya Maharashtra that seems to have heated up faster than the others is Solapur (39.6°C), which is much higher than places like Satara, Nashik , Malegaon, Pune and Jalgaon. In almost all locations in the state, except Konkan, the mercury has shot beyond 35°C, with Vidarbha and Marathwada slowly progressing towards near heat wave-like conditions.

Anupam Kashyapi, head of weather, IMD, Pune, told TOI, “By March 14, we expect a marginal fall (or at least no rise) in the day temperatures due to the impact of an induced cyclonic circulation associated with a western disturbance . There may, however, be a marginal rise in day temperature till March 13, but that may still not be enough to qualify as a heat wave condition.”

Kashyapi said an interaction between the easterlies and westerlies over north Telangana, Vidarbha, parts of Chhattisgarh and the adjacent area of Marathwada may result in cloud formation and light rain in areas near Chhattisgarh, Telangana and Vidarbha after 48 hours.
