Partially burnt body found at empty plot in Mansa Devi Complex

PANCHKULA: The half-burnt body of an unidentified woman was found at Mansa Devi Complex in the early hours of Saturday, prompting the police to register a murder case.

A police control room (PCR) received a call about the body that appeared to have been set on fire a few minutes back barely 200 metres from the Mansa Devi Complex police station around 5 am.

Deputy commissioner of police (DCP) Kamaldeep Goyal, assistant commissioner of police (ACP) Noopur Bishnoi, Mansa Devi Complex station house officer inspector Rajeev Kumar and crime investigation agency (CIA) staff found the body in the bushes at an empty plot, with smoke emanating from it. Police said the body was burnt probably around the time the PCR received the call.

A forensic team was also rushed to the spot. Many villagers and local residents gathered at the site. “Right now, we cannot say why the murder took place, who did it and the motive. It is clear the accused tried to destroy the body after the murder,” said inspector Vijay Kumar.

Police said a sack was lying next to the body, indicating the body was taken to the point in it after the murder. Cops are trying to obtain footage from CCTV cameras installed nearby to secure clues.

Police registered a case under Sections 302 (punishment for murder) and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence, or giving false information to screen offender) of the IPC ( Indian Penal Code ).
