Patiala: WhatsApp group admin assaulted by members he removed

PATIALA: Unhappy over being removed from a WhatsApp group , some people assaulted the group administrator in Patran town of Patiala on Friday.


The victim, a car dealer by profession, allegedly removed them after a warning against sharing pictures not related to the subject and purpose of the group.

The social media group was created under name 'Car Palace’ and besides the car dealers, there were other members in the group too. The police claimed that most of the group members were car dealers who used to share the videos and pictures related to the cars for resale purposes.

The police have booked three persons following a complaint by the vicitim, indentified as Sunil Kumar. All the accused still at large. The police said that the accused have been indentified as Pawan Kumar , Sujit Ram of Patran town and Joginder Singh of Shutrana block of the district.

Sunil Kumar, said, "I was the group admin and members included all the car dealers of the town who shared information about the cars. The accused, who are also car dealers, used to share pictures related to religions, good morning pictures, or their own personal pictures in the group. Apart from me, some other members were objecting to this and several times warned them against sharing such pictures and videos. The accused called our car dealers association president and informed him that they would beat me up for removing them from the group. Our association president even tried to persuade them and ask them to cool down as he would get them added again but the accused were adamant. They reached my shop by the evening and assaulted me and my friend."

Investigation officer of the case, ASI Surinder Singh said, “We are conducting a probe into the matter and the accused will be nabbed soon but in the primary investigation we have found that the accused were annoyed after they were expelled from the group of a social media site. We are collecting some more inputs and have come to know that there was also a monetary dispute between the complainant and the accused. The case was registered against the accused but they are yet to be nabbed.”
