Patna: Drive to remove encroachments from drains on

PATNA: Continuing its drive against encroachments on major drains in the city on the direction of divisional commissioner (DC) Sanjay Kumar Agarwal, the district administration on Thursday demolished 11 permanent residential constructions made on Badshahi Nala in Nandlal Chapra locality.

Another team of Danapur officials removed 15 permanent and 20 hutments illegally constructed between R P S Mor and R P S Engineering College on a major drain.

This locality had witnessed heavy waterlogging after the incessant rain in the last week of September. Over 50 newly developed colonies had remained waterlogged for weeks.

Agarwal said the anti-encroachment drive would be followed by dredging of all the major drains so as to allow their regular and uninterrupted flow. “The two measures would help solve the problem of waterlogging in the state capital,” Agarwal said.

After Badshahi Nala, the oldest and longest drains (about 25km) in the city, the administration will remove encroachments from other drains passing through the municipal areas, such as Anandpur Nala, Patelnagar Nala, Saidpur Nala up to Sanichra, drain from Jogipur sump house to bypass, Kurji Nala and the one passing along airport and Rajdhani Vatika.

Agarwal said over 60 permanent and temporary constructions raised on Badshahi Nala in Phulwarisharif area would also be removed. These encroachments included spaces, parking and gardens developed by many private schools and hospitals. After inspecting the area from Phulwarisharif to Khemnichak and carrying out measurement, the circle officer of Phulwari has put red mark on the encroached portions of the buildings slated for removal.

Agarwal also held a review meeting with DM Kumar Ravi and engineers of the water resources department on the programme of dredging and cleaning of all the major drains.
