BENGALURU: In embarrassment to police, a Cheetah patrol motorcycle of Rajarajeshwari Nagar police was stolen from outside a hotel on Channasandra Main Road in the early hours of Wednesday.

Police traced the bike to Maddur, Mandya district, 75km from the place it was stolen, thanks to the GPS device fitted in the vehicle.

“We found our bike (Cheetah No. 75) at Maddur and brought it back to the city. We are trying to nab the vehicle-lifters,” a senior police officer said.

According to police, the miscreants stole the bike between12.50am and1am on Wednesday from outside Prince Royal Hotel on Channasandra Main Road. The patrol officers had been asked to watch lodges, bus stations, railway stations for suspicious persons.

Cops suspect drunk men may have taken bike

Rangaswamaiah said he was on night patrol on Tuesday. He and Girish, a constable, stopped their bike in front of Prince Royal Hotel for a check. “The hotel staff informed us that a person had checked into room No. 101 showing different identity documents. We went to the room and enquired with the occupant, identified as Roopesh. We came out in 10 minutes as we found nothing suspicious. We found our Cheetah vehicle missing,” Rangaswamaiah said in the complaint.

A senior police officer said Rajarajeshwarinagar police have collected CCTV footage from the hotel and other adjacent buildings and are combing through the images to identify the miscreants.

Police suspect drunk men may have found the bike with the key in it, and sped away on it, before abandoning it in Maddur. They might have left the bike after realising it belonged to police.
