Pilibhit: CMOs, CMSes to provide medical services to patients two hours every week

Pilibhit: In an effort to deal with acute crunch of doctors in government hospitals across Uttar Pradesh, director general (DG) of health and medical services Dr Padmakar Singh has directed all chief medical officers (CMOs) and chief medical superintendents (CMSes) to provide at least two hours of medical services a week to patients.

According to the DG, the time assigned by these medical officers will be in accordance with their administrative work.

Referring to a letter issued by UP health minister SidharthNath Singh on August 5, Dr Singh told TOI over phone, “All CMOs, additional CMOs, CMSes and medical superintendents posted in UP government hospitals will abide by the order, which will remain in force until the shortage of doctors is over. The engagement of medical officers with administrative duty in hospitals will help reduce the gap between patient-doctor ratio.”

Asked about the implementation of the order in Pilibhit, CMO Dr Seema Agrawal said she would comply with the order from Thursday.

Divulging details of the shortage of doctors at the Pilibhit district hospital, Dr Agrawal said, “There are hardly 50 doctors in the district against the allotted 109 posts collectively at the district hospital, women’s hospital, community as well as primary health centres.”

“The patients will now get additional part-time medical service of one CMO, six additional CMOs, two CMSes and two medical superintendents in the district,” added the CMO.
