Police: Accident victims were fleeing on stolen bike

Aurangabad: The man who died in an accident at Chikalthan on Thursday was riding triple seat with his two friends on a stolen motorcycle, police said.

According to preliminary probe into the accident, the trio were fleeing with the stolen bike and on their way to Jalna from Padegaon area when the accident happened.

Soon after the accident, passers-by rushed to their rescue and also informed the MIDC police, who reached the spot and took two of them to hospital as one had already escaped from the scene.

Police said Shaikh Raees alias Bokya (34), a criminal on record, managed to flee from the sport despite being injured. The remaining two — Shravan Namdeo Chavan (26) and Sanjay Shivaji Chavan (35) — were taken to Government Medical College and Hospital, where Shravan was declared dead.

Sanjay, who was being treated, also fled from the hospital, raising police’s suspicion that the bike in the accident could be a stolen one.

According to police, Shravan and Sanjay had come to Padegaon area in the city to meet their sister and were on their way to Partur, when they met Bokya. The trio then started riding the bike triple-seat on the Jalna road.

Police, who have registered a case of accidental death, have launched a hunt for the two suspects. An officer privy to the probe informed that on Friday, the process of scanning the CCTV footage are being checked. The call records of the trio are also being checked.

Police suspect that they may have committed a robber or some crime or were heading to commit one when the accident happened.
