Police arrest gang leader who attacked Satna cops

Bhopal: Hours after a group of seven criminals attacked two policemen and escaped with their rifles and wireless set in Satna district, police arrested the main accused late on Thursday night after an exchange of fire. Two more accused were arrested on Friday. However, the rifle and wireless set are yet to be recovered.

Main accused has sustained bullet injuries in his legs and is undergoing treatment.

It was at around midnight when police had an encounter with the gang leader Vicky Khan near Sagmania locality, he sustained bullet injuries in his legs and was taken to district hospital while others managed to escape.

Police said that Khan’s mother and another accused Veerendra Chawdhary were also arrested.

While the two — Khan’s mother and Chawdhary were produced before court and sent to jail, Vicky is still undergoing treatment at district hospital, police said.

At around 1.30am on Thursday, the cops received a message that a gang of seven armed people were extorting money from the truck drivers near Adarsh Nagar. Constables Sandeep Namdev and Manoj Singh, both posted at Kolgawan police station reached the spot, seven of them attacked the two with iron rods and other weapons. They overpowered them and escaped with their rifle and wireless set.

Senior police officers, including the SP, reached the spot and ordered to barricade the city borders. Intensive search operation was initiated. Injured policemen were referred to a local hospital for treatment.
