Police feed bananas to accused to recover gold chain in Bikaner

Jaipur: It was an unusual recovery from a 27-year-old chain snatcher who swallowed a gold chain to evade arrest by the Bikaner police.

The accused was taken to the hospital where an x-ray examination confirmed that the chain was in his abdomen. The doctors advised the police to make the accused eat a lot of bananas.

The stolen chain was finally recovered on Wednesday morning when the accused went to the loo. He was subsequently arrested by the police. The bizarre tale began on late Tuesday evening when Ganga Shahar police tracked down the accused Rakesh and his friend Vikram after they absconded with a woman’s gold chain.

“The woman was returning to her house from the main market when the two accused snatched her chain. A CCTV footage captured their image. We tracked down Rakesh’s hideout and landed at his doorstep,” SHO Subhas Chander said. Cornered by the police, Rakesh was surprised and he quickly swallowed the gold chain. He even released a taunting burp at the police. The cops were taken aback for a while. The SHO took him to the nearby PBM Hospital.

“The x-ray examination confirmed the presence of the stolen item. Doctors advised us to make him eat bananas. The chain has been finally recovered,” SHO Subhas Chander told TOI.

The police also arrested Rakesh’s accomplice Vikram. The police said that in the case of stolen items recovery is very crucial for investigation.
