Police stop child marriage in Jhalawar

KOTA: Jhalawar Sadar station police on Friday stopped child marriage of a 17-year-old girl who was going to be tied in a nuptial knot on Saturday in Bhitiyakhedi village of the district. The police restricted her parents from solemnizing her marriage until she turns over 18 years of age.

Acting on a a tip off, the police team was on Friday sent to the child bride’s home, said SHO at Jhalawar Sadar police station Sanjay Prasad Meena .

The police team, on verification of documents pertaining to age, found that ‘would-be bride’ was minor and was 17 years and two-months old following which the parents of the girl were restricted from solemnizing the daughter’s marriage until she turns over 18. The SHO said that the police also filed a complaint under sections of Prevention of Child Marriage Act against minor girl’s father Ghanshyam Mehar and her mother. TNN
