Police will strongly intervene to rein in Covid-19: Kerala CM

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The activities of the police in containing Covid-19, including contact tracing and containment zone management, are being widely accepted by the public and it will continue, said chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan .


He said that the police undertaking the task along with the health department officials will be continued with more precision.

He said that in the wake of increasing numbers of cases, the police intervention will be made stringent in Thiruvananthapuram, Alappuzha and Malappuram.IG (north zone) Ashok Yadav and DIG (Thrissur range) S Surendran will camp in Malappuram and supervise the activities.

The chief minister said that a database will be prepared for those who are not wearing masks. Those who are caught repeatedly for not wearing masks will be slapped a fine of Rs 2,000, he said. Vijayan said that it has been reported that the public themselves took initiative in defining a containment zone in Karamana in the capital, and this method will be included in the activities of Janamaithri police. The Janamaithri police will take initiative in providing awareness by involving the residents’ associations and the general public.

The activities of the police in the fight against Covid-19 was reviewed by state police chief Loknath Behera here on Tuesday. The chief minister said that certain measures and strategies that were effectively implemented in certain places will be emulated in other places as well. He said that the market enforcement squad implemented in Kollam rural, effective management of the truck drivers by ensuring them germ-free places to reside in Thrissur market, etc. will be emulated in other places as well.
