Poll code hits appointment process in 4 universities

JAIPUR: The model code of conduct has hit the appointment process of four state universities. The Governor House has expressed inability to give permission to these varsities to advertise the vacancies in the newspapers till May last week. The four varsities are –Maharana Pratap Agriculture University ( Udaipur ), Swami Keshwanand Rajasthan Agriculture University ( Bikaner ), Kota University and Jagadguru Ramanandacharya Rajasthan Sanskrit University (JRRSU).

All these universities at present are being governed by the acting vice-chancellor.

Sources told that advertisement for the top post tantamount to the violation of election code. The Governor House can seek permission from the state election commission but is unlikely to get the permission. The advertisement in newspapers is basically the beginning of the process. Normally, the process for appointing the VC takes around three months but due to election code it will take around 6-7 months.

JRRSU will be at the receiving end as it has not VC since February 14, 2018. The advertisement was published in June 2018 but was withdrawn on the insistence of the governor house who stated to bring some changes in university act. "It is unfortunate that the process of the lone Sanskrit university has not even started. It means the university has to wait for more months to have a family head," said a university head.
