Poll training starts for cops in Noida

NOIDA: The Gautam Budh Nagar administration on Saturday started the process of distributing around 1 lakh electoral photo identity cards (EPICs) in Noida, 25,000 in Dadri and about 10,000 in Jewar. District magistrate B N Singh also flagged off 11 auto-rickshaws from Sector 19 as part of a voter awareness drive and carried out electoral training programme of all district officials, including police personnel, at Indira Gandhi Kala Kendra in Sector 6.

“In areas with over 200 booths, voter cards will be given by block-level officers (BLOs) from designated booths, while in areas less than 200 booths, BLOs will go to every house to give voter cards,” said city magistrate Shailendra Kumar Mishra.

Mishra further added that while information on voter cards and booths is being also imparted through loudspeakers in mohallas/residential localities, the entire process is also being recorded through videography. “The voter card is only an identity document. Name of the voter is mandatory on voter list to enable him to cast his vote, hence the intensive drive on voter awareness,” said Mishra.

Earlier on Friday Meerut Commissioner Anita C Meshram along with Inspector General of Police Ram Kumar had visited the collectorate at Surajpur to oversee election preparedness and directed officials to ensure all necessary arrangements with a view to set a benchmark for the ensuing elections because district G B Nagar will be covered in the first phase of elections come April 11.

On law and order condition of the district, IGP Kumar directed officials to comply requisite mapping of vulnerable/critical booths and increase patrolling with a check on gangsters in operation.
