Pondy court sets man free, gang kills him on same day

Cuddalore: A criminal, who came out of jail on Monday after being acquitted by a Puducherry court in a murder case earlier in the day, was hacked to death by his rivals in the evening.

Police have identified three members of a seven-member gang that murdered P Amaran, 24, of Puducherry’s Jeeva Nagar to avenge the murder of their aide, Maduvapet Murali, two years ago.

After Amaran was released from prison, his father, Pandian, and brother-in-law Udayakumar decided to take him to a relative’s house in Thanjavur district fearing attacks by rival gangs.

On their way to Thanjavur, they stopped their car near Vadalur, where Pandian, Udayakumar and the driver went to buy liquor. A gang of armed men who had followed them on bikes dragged Amaran out of the car and attacked him with sharp weapons, killing him on the spot. His father, who sustained injuries, fled the spot. TNN
