Post-Ayodhya verdict: Moradabad cops remove 10'objectionable' posts from social media

BAREILLY: Moradabad police, who had launched ‘operation eagle’ against anti-social elements, swiftly responded to complaints and reached out to 10 people who had uploaded “objectionable” posts on social media following Supreme Court’s judgment on Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid title suit on Saturday.

The cops made the social media users delete the posts from their respective accounts and gave them a stern warning.

After police action, the individuals not only deleted the message but also apologised for their act. The police warned that they would meet with dire consequences if they again posted any objectionable posts on their social media accounts. Police said that with the help of a team of digital volunteers the cyber cell kept a close watch on anti-social elements.

Superintendent of police (city) Amit Kumar Anand said that an integrated control room was set up to maintain a close watch on hate messages. “We had also appealed to citizens to inform the control room by calling them in the available numbers if they come across any message or post shared on social media platforms,” the SP said.

“We received at least 10 complaints after which prompt action was taken. We ensured all such messages were deleted before they went viral and also issued strict warning to those who had posted the messages. After our intervention, they not only apologised but also uploaded messages that they agree with the Supreme Court’s verdict on Ayodhya land dispute,” the police officer said, adding that no further action will be taken against them.

The SP also said that to keep monitoring the social media they had roped in civil defence volunteers, digital volunteers and local dignitaries from various communities.
