Post cyclone Bulbul, nights in Odisha coastal belt are warmer than normal!

Bhubaneswar: Odisha will not see any appreciable drop in night temperatures till November 22, even as in the next 48 hours minimum temperature in the west, northwest and central India will dip by 2-3 degree Celsius.

As per the local met office here, only five places in the State have recorded minimum temperature below 15 degree Celsius on Sunday (Nov 17).

Places like Sundargarh, Titlagarh, Sonepur and Angul saw minimum temperature on Sunday between 13 and 14.6 degree Celsius, respectively. On the expected lines, Daringibadi recorded State’s lowest temperature of 12 degree Celsius.

In a big departure, despite in mid November,  the entire coastal belt of the State till date has recorded a higher minimum temperature vis-a-vis the  normal temperature. The IMD data shows the departure in minimum temperature from the normal was in the range of 1 – 2.3 degree Celsius. November nights this year in coastal belt of the State are warmer.

Maximum departure to the extent of 2.3 degree C in minimum temperature was recorded in Bulbul hit districts of Jagatsinghpur and Kendrapada.

In contrast, the districts of Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Keonjhar, Angul and Titlagarh have recorded an appreciable dip in the minimum temperatures. The drop ranges between 3.4 degree C in Angul to 0.1 degree C in Titlagarh.

But the departure in the maximum temperatures across the State has been uniform till date.  This November the days are warmer in Odisha. The departure ranges from 0.2 – 2.4 degree C.

As per met experts, due to formation of a western disturbance in the neighbourhood of India, the northwest wind is yet to flow across Odisha. And as the system has now moved more towards east and northeast wards, the north west India will witness clear sky and night temperature will witness a fall, experts observed.

The wind speed in Odisha will increase by November 21, and the direction of winds will be mostly from  west – north western direction. As a consequence, minimum temperature in Sundgargarh, Jharsuguda and few places in south interior Odisha will see a fall.

But temperatures in rest of the districts will remain at around 20 deg C.
