Pratapgarh: SUV ferrying students to exam centre rams bus

Allahabad: At least nine students, including six girls, of diploma in elementary education (D.El.Ed) sustained serious injuries when an SUV carrying them collided with a bus near Mothin village in Pratapgarh on Thursday morning.

Inspector, Lalganj Kotwali, Rakesh Singh said the incident took place around 9:45 am when the students were going to appear for an examination.



Senior police officials, including a team from Lalganj police station, rushed to the spot and carried out rescue operation.

The injured students were identified as Puja (22) of Gonda, Rupa (20) of Amethi, Manisha (20) of Sahzadpur, Pratibha Yadav (22) of Maheshganj, Anjali Maurya (23) of Jaunpur, Soni (21) of Rae Bareli, Piyush Tiwari (24) and Alok (24) of Jhingur, and Poonam (21) were taken to community health centre in Lalganj. Six of them were referred to Pratapgarh district hospital for treatment. The condition of all the students is said to be stable.

Police said the bus was on its way to Janeshwarganj from Rampur Babli. An FIR was also registered in the case. Over the past 14 days, over a dozen cases of road accidents were reported from in Pratapgarh. Three persons died and nine were injured in these accidents.

Taking a serious note of rising incidents of road mishaps in neighbouring district, range police authorities have asked officials to take measures to ensure road safety by organising awareness drives.

In the past 10 months, over 213 people died and over 250 others were injured in over 400 cases of road mishaps in Pratapgarh.
