Protests Held In City On JRL Call

SRINAGAR — Protests were held here on the call of Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) on Friday against NIA summons to Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and others and detention of Yasin Malik under PSA

 “Detention of JKLF chairman Muhammad Yasin and others under draconian PSA and bullying Mirwaiz Muhammad Umar Farooq, Syed Naseem Geelani and others by NIA are all manifestation of state-sponsored violence. The Kashmiri nation cannot be intimidated by such mean tactics,” said vice chairman of Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) Showkat Ahmad Bakhshi while addressing protesters at Abi Guzar here on Friday.

According to a JKLF statement, party leaders and activists along with people from different walks of life gathered at Abi Guzar Lal Chowk and staged a peaceful protest against “bullying of Mirwaiz Muhammad Umar Farooq, Syed Naseem Geelani and many others by NIA, slapping of draconian PSA on JKLF chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik, vice president of Jamiat Ahli Hadees Moulvi Mushtaq Veeri, spokesman of Jamat-e-Islami advocate Zahid Ali and hundreds of others”.

The Syed Ali Shah Geelani-led Hurriyat Conference also organized a protest march at Hyderpora Srinagar and Budgam against the “fascist ploy” of booking JKLF chief Muhammad Yasin Malik and others pro-freedom leaders under PSA, summons to Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Syed Naseem Geelani by NIA, “spree of mass arrests and ban on politico-religious organization Jamaat-e-Islami.”

A statement issued here said that Hurriyat (G) leaders and activists held a protest at Hyderpora Srinagar while Aga Syed Akeel Mouswi led a protest rally in Budgam.
