PSO's weapon snatched, curfew imposed in Kishtwar

JAMMU: Curfew was imposed in Jammu region’s Kishtwar town and its outskirts on Friday and a massive search operation was launched after unidentified suspected terrorists snatched a weapon carried by the personal security officer (PSO) of a local People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leader.


Kishtwar deputy commissioner Angrez Singh Rana told

TOI that the officially-issued weapon of PDP district president Master Sheikh’s personal security officer was snatched on Friday morning by some unidentified miscreants, who managed to escape.

“As a preventive measure, curfew was imposed on Friday in the town and its adjoining areas, under the jurisdiction of one police station, the DC said. Teams of Army, police and CRPF have cordoned off the entire area and launched a massive search operation to track down the unidentified suspects,” Rana added.

It is estimated that more than 200 weapons, including AK-47s, SLRs, INSAS rifles, were snatched by militants in the past three years till July 30 this year in Jammu and Kashmir .

This is the third case of weapon-snatching in Kishtwar this year. On March 8, masked assailants barged into PSO Daleep Kumar’s residence in Shaheedi Mazar area and snatched his AK-47 rifle and 90 bullets. On April 9, suspected militants killed RSS leader Chandrakanta’s personal security officer (PSO) and snatched his weapon in Kishtwar town.
