Punjab: Bathinda official arrested for taking bribe

BATHINDA: Punjab Vigilance Bureau on Wednesday nabbed the superintendent of water supply & sanitation department while accepting illegal gratification of Rs 30,000.


An official spokesperson of the Vigilance Bureau said that Umesh Kumar, posted at division number 3 at Bathinda, was caught on the complaint of Lakhvir Singh of Faridkot.



The complainant had approached the VB and alleged that he had supplied nine mobile water tanks to the water supply and sanitation division number 3 at a cost of Rs 12.13 lakh and the superintendent, Umesh Kumar, was demanding Rs 35,000 to clear a pending bill. The deal was struck at Rs 30,000.

The vigilance team laid a trap and the accused was arrested on the spot while accepting bribe from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses.

A case has been registered against the accused under the Prevention of Corruption Act at VB police station Bathinda.
