Punjab elections: SAD accuses Congress man of distributing money

JALALABAD: A group of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) workers here on Monday picked up a Congress worker near a polling booth here, alleging that he was distributing money to buy votes for the Congress.

The SAD workers took the man to Jalalabad police station and produced him before the police, and also handed over Rs 40,000 to the cops which the man was allegedly carrying with him.

On getting the news of SAD activists taking away the man, Congress workers demanded the registration of an abduction case.

The SAD candidate from Jalalabad assembly constituency, Raj Singh Dibbipura, alleged that one Ramesh Kumar of neighbouring Guruharsahai assembly constituency was distributing money to buy votes near Shivalik School when his party’s workers caught him.

Demanding action against the accused, SAD Fazilka (urban) chief Ashok Aneja alleged that huge amount of money was distributed by the Congress to lure voters.

Jalalabad City station house officer (SHO) Lekh Raj Batti said they would initiate action after investigating the matter. “We will verify the antecedents of the man and find out the reason behind him sitting near the polling booth with cash. “We will also inquire into where Rakesh was kept for over one hour by SAD supporters,” he said.
