Punjab gets 6,192 kilo litres non-subsidised kerosene for Guru Nanak's 550th birth anniversary celebrations

CHANDIGARH: Accepting the demand of Punjab government, the Centre has accorded approval for allocation of non-subsidised kerosene required for various events to be organised on the occasion of 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev.

KAP Sinha, principal secretary, department of food civil supplies and consumer affairs, Punjab said the state government had request the Union ministry of petroleum and natural gas for allocation of non-subsidised kerosene has been considered and the state has been allocated 6,192 kilo litres (kl) non-subsidised public distribution system (PDS) kerosene through its discretionary quota.



Sinha said a number of religious and educational activities are being organised to mark the year-long celebrations. “The activities attract huge gathering for which langar (community kitchen food) is prepared on a grand scale. For this, a huge quantity of cooking fuel is required since burning wood can cause pollution as well as damage the fragile green cover of the state,” said Sinha.

He further said the sale of non-subsided PDS kerosene oil would be limited to 2,500 litres per transaction at retail-level, as mandated in the Petroleum Act, 1934 (Rules 2002). However, there would be no bar on subsequent issue of kerosene to the same religious/educational institution after the consumption of the earlier delivered kerosene.

The district-wise allocation of non-subsidised PDS kerosene include 636kl for Amritsar, 96kl for Barnala, 444kl for Bathinda , 156kl for Faridkot, 72kl for Fatehgarh Sahib , 588kl for Fazilka,480kl for Ferozepur, 480kl for Gurdaspur, 288kl for Hoshiarpur, 252kl for Jalandhar, 240kl for, Kapurthala, 180kl for Ludhiana, 204kl for Mansa,180kl for Moga, 216kl for Pathankot, 228kl for Patiala, 96kl for Ropar, 300kl for Sangrur and 72kl, 48kl, 360kl and 576kl for Mohali, Nawanshahr, Muktsar and Tarn Taran respectively.

The religious activities would be conducted by gurdwaras, religious associations, Sukhmani societies and other religious institutions like Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee , Guru Gobind Singh Study Circle and Sikh Missionary College. Educational activities, such as seminars, workshops and lectures, would be organised at various primary and secondary schools, colleges and universities.
