Punjab police sub-inspector shoots wife, kills self over argument on settling in Canada

Chandigarh: In an appalling case reported, a 45-year-old assistant sub-inspector of the Punjab police allegedly shot dead his wife before killing himself with his service revolver. The incident happened following a domestic dispute in the Jalandhar district. 

According to a report in the Times of India (TOI)

, the sub-inspector was identified as ASI Gurbaksh Singh and he was posted in Jalandhar. The Station House officer Ramamandi Dakoha, Sewa Singh told TOI that the preliminary investigation revealed there were differences between the couple over settling abroad. 

The wife was identified as 41-year-old Vandana who wanted her husband to settle in Canada along with their family but Singh was against the decision. However, the couple is survived by their two children aged 19 and 17, the officer added. 

In a similar case reported from Punjab, a man was sentenced to life imprisonment after he drowned six people including his wife and son. The sentence was awarded by the court of additional district and sessions judge Amar Paul. The incident took place on February 9, 2016. The accused has been identified as Dalbir Singh who hailed from a village in Ambala and had drowned six people in the Sirhind Canal near Machhiwara district of Punjab.
