QAhmedabad: Dengue Toll Rises in Jamnagar; 3 Killed in Accident

1. Dengue: Jamnagar Worst-Hit in Gujarat

The city of Jamnagar has come under the shadow of Dengue related deaths with as many as 11 deaths recorded in the city since September of which seven were recorded in the last week alone.

The last casualty was a 62-year-old man from Patel colony. Even as medical staff in Jamnagar are already over whelmed by the rising number of Dengue cases, over 70 doctors are also affected by dengue of which 12 are still under treatment.

Close to 1,100 patients were treated in the Out Patient Department on Monday 14 October and 800 on Tuesday 15 October.

2. Mud Pile Causes Autorickshaw-Police MUV Collision, 3 Dead

Three persons were killed and two injured after their autorickshaw rammed into a police multi- utility vehicle at Barvala Cross Road in Gujarat's Botad district late Monday night, an official said.

The accident was caused by a pile of mud on the road and an unidentified contractor has been booked for negligence leading to death, Sub-Inspector Shaktisinh Zala of Barvala police station said.

"The autorickshaw driver Vinod Sadariya, who is among the deceased, has been booked for rash driving under section 279 of the IPC. Two others who died have been identified as Manji Vaghela and Mohammad Shah. Two injured persons have been shifted to hospitals in Bhavnagar and Ahmedabad," he said.

3. Guj Govt Doubles Salaries of GSRTC Fixed-Pay Employees

In a Diwali bonanza, the BJP government in Gujarat on Tuesday, 15 October announced to almost double the monthly salaries of more than 12,000 fixed-pay employees of the State Road Transport Corporation (GSRTC), which operates a fleet of bus services.

The new hike will be applicable to 12,692 fixed-pay employees of the corporation, said deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel.

"Since Diwali is approaching, the revised salary structure will come into force from tomorrow (October 16) itself. Simultaneously, salary for 15 days of the ongoing month will be calculated as per the new raise," he told reporters in Gandhinagar.

4. Four Held for Shooting Tiktok Video Inside Police Station

Four men have been arrested for shooting a video inside a police station and uploading it on popular video-sharing site TikTok in Gujarat's Banaskantha district.

Five persons had been called for questioning after the police received a complaint about a fight on Sunday, 13 October said sub-inspector S S Rane of Agthala police station.

While one of them was being questioned, others, who were sitting in another room, shot a video, he said.

5. Congress Protests Against Guj Decision to Cancel Competitive Exam

The Congress on Tuesday, 15 October held protests across Gujarat against the BJP government's decision to cancel the non-secretariat clerk and office assistant competitive exam.

The Opposition party demanded compensation for students for the "mental harassment and financial loss" caused to them by the decision of the state government.

The government announced on 12 October that it was cancelling the exam which was scheduled to be held on 20 October. The exam was advertised in October last year. The new schedule is not announced yet.
