Amidst the political controversy over the procurement of 36 fighter multi-role fighter aircraft from France, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) Chairman and Managing Director R Madhavan, on Thursday, 21 February, said the PSU is not interested in the Rafale offsets

While addressing media at Aero India 2019 Madhavan said: “As of now, it (Rafale deal) is a direct purchase, because of that we are not interested. If it was the manufacturing, we are interested in it. We are not interested in the offsets in the direct purchases. Also, it is the government’s decision (to allocate offsets)

2. Dead Lizard in Midday Meal, 40 Students Admitted to Hospital
40 kids were hospitalised.

Panic prevailed on Thursday afternoon in Karnataka’s Koppal district after 40 students between standards 1 and 8 of a government school fell ill after consuming their midday meal. The students were shifted to the hospital after many of them started vomiting. According to the District Surgeon Dr Daanareddy, all the students of the Bevoor Primary and Middle School are out of danger and are responding well to treatment.

A dead lizard was found in the midday meal prepared in the school in Bevoor village in Yelburga taluk, Dr Daanareddy said. “They were initially admitted to the community health centre first and later transferred to the Koppal District Hospital. The food was prepared at the school itself and the midday meal preparation was not contracted to anyone,” Dr Daanareddy told TNM.

3. K’taka now run by 2½ CMs, Says Amit Shah in Swipe at Coalition BJP President Amit Shah.

BJP national president Amit Shah on Thursday, 21 February, ridiculed the JD(S)- Congress coalition government in Karnataka, saying it was being run by two-and-a-half CMs.

of Bengaluru’s founder Kempe Gowda, Shah said: “The Karnataka government is run by two-and-a-half CMs. While chief minister HD Kumaraswamy is a self-proclaimed clerk CM, Congress Legislature Party Leader Siddaramaiah is a super CM. Amidst them, deputy chief minister G Parameshwara is a half CM.”

4. Attacked Singh in Self-Defence, Says Arrested MLA Congress MLAs JN Ganesh (L) and Anand Singh (R). Ganesh has been accused of assaulting Singh at Eagleton Resort

Congress MLA JN Ganesh, arrested on Wednesday, 20 February from Somnath in Gujarat, was on Thursday, 21 February remanded in judicial custody till 6 March by the chief judicial magistrate’s court in Ramanagara.

Bidadi police, who arrested the Kampli MLA for allegedly attempting to murder his colleague, Hospet MLA Anand Singh in a resort in Ramanagara district late January 20 night, did not seek his custody. Investigators questioned him for two hours before producing him in the court.

5. 150 Tourism Taxis Flagged off in City HD Kumaraswamy. 

Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy and Tourism Minister Sa Ra Mahesh on Thursday, 21 February flagged off around 150 tourism taxis in the city. The tourism department plans to distribute 1,470 taxis to those belonging to the economically weaker section of society this year.

Speaking to DH, Priyanka Mary Francis, Tourism Director said every year taxis are given away to empower people, especially in districts. This year, the target is to distribute 1,470 taxis, and the candidates are chosen after scrutiny by the selection committee in each district. Then deputy commissioners will finalise it.
